Annual Nelson's Ride
Sunday August 22, 2010
at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester, MA
The Tenth Annual Nelson's Ride was held at Gloucester's Stage Fort Park on Sunday August 23, 2009. Nelson's Ride is annual slow
ride in memory of Nelson Selig, Sr.,
who was killed in a motorcycle accident on May 2, 2000,
leaving behind a wife (Felicia), two children (Nelson Jr. and Kristin),
two sisters (Melanie and Jeannine), his mother (Faye Brophy), his step
father (Bob Brophy), and many good friends.
The annual fundraiser which began in August 2000, is intended
to make one of Nelson Sr.'s dreams come true: to send his children to
college. That dream was accomplished and in 2003, Nelson's widow
Felicia requested that our Team begin helping other Essex County families of
riders killed in accidents with the funds raised from Nelson's Ride. Additionally, Nelly's Bill
became law in Massachusetts in 2004 as a result of the hard work of
motorcyclists' lobbying efforts. It mandates that motorcycle
awareness programs be included in drivers' education courses. The bill
was named in honor of Nelson Selig, Sr. Read more about Nelly's Bill,
its history, and how you can contribute
to the Massachusetts Motorcyclists' Survivors Fund: "Riders helping Riders."

THIS YEAR'S THANK YOUS:

Just a note of thanks for
yesterday's ride. My son and I had a great time. It was our
first Nelson's ride. The event was well-organized and a lot of
fun. I know how much work it takes to pull these types of
events off and I also know lots of people appreciate your
efforts (and the rest of the support team) but rarely voice it.
Nice work to all...I'm already looking forward to next
year...I'm hoping to also get my oldest son and my wife on their
own bikes for the event. Cheers - Len

Hi! To all who planned the event,
organized it, and volunteered their time........AWESOME job!! This was
my first time participating in Nelsons Ride and our group had a great
time! We all felt it was very well done but we would also love to know
just how many bikes participated in the ride? Maybe you could include
that in your website for everyone. Once again, Thanks and I look forward
to next year! Sherrie
